Communications Manager

We're thrilled to announce an exciting opportunity to work with UC Berkeley’s Eric and Wendy Schmidt Center for Data Science and Environment (DSE) and James M. and Cathleen D. Stone Center for Large Landscape Conservation (Stone Center) as our first Communications Manager!

We believe in the power of design and storytelling to bring data to life. We're dedicated to making our research and analysis accessible and empowering for all audiences. That's why we're on the lookout for a talented individual who shares our passion for taking on ambitious environmental challenges and can help us better reach the important stakeholders and audiences to communicate our findings.

What We're Looking For:

We aim to contribute to the global community who are similarly working to take on these challenges in four key areas:

  • Generating ground-breaking computational/data science discoveries motivated by pressing environmental questions;
  • Producing scalable solutions to critical threats facing the environment, powered by open-source tools;
  • Deploying these solutions widely, taking advantage of modern cloud infrastructure and open data/open software, and maintaining a design philosophy of vendor neutrality to ensure that community needs are prioritized;
  • Creating an enhanced pipeline of young environmental leaders connected to local communities and organizations to meet their needs and translate our research findings and technological developments into practical impacts.

The Communications Manager will play a critical role in helping to clearly and effectively share our work with a variety of audiences including stakeholders, funders, researchers, students, and the wider community. The incumbent will be a seasoned contributing communicator with interest and experience amplifying the findings of teams that address environmental challenges with data science methods and tools.

We’re looking for people with creativity, passion, and teamwork. You're encouraged to apply even if your experience doesn't fully match the job description. We seek diverse perspectives and people who step outside of the box. We are committed as a team to fostering an inclusive, supportive environment for you to do the best and most rewarding work of your career.

If this sounds like you, we'd love to hear from you. When applying, be sure to showcase your work and include a few ways for us to see your creativity in action. Whether it's portfolio samples, projects you've worked on, or anything else that demonstrates your skills and passion, we want to see it!
